Time Warner Cable might dip its toes into its own high-end WiMAX smartphone after an inside leak was corroborated late Thursday. The unnamed hardware was in testing and would use Sprint’s CDMA network for voice with Clearwire’s network handling the WiMAX for 4G data. Few details were available to FierceWireless’ sources, though it’s presumed this would be an Android device.
A company spokesperson took the rare step of acknowledging that at least one mobile device with a phone component was being worked on with a partner company, but he wouldn’t say more.

Samsung, in collaboration with UQ Communications, demonstrated a trial WiMAX 2 network at CEATEC Japan with speeds reaching 330Mbps. Based on IEEE 802.16m, its speed was showcased on 1080p 3D and 16 1080p screens at the same time. Samsung used its existing Mobile WiMAX base station for the demo.
WiMAX 2 is faster than the original 4G network, while remaining compatible with current WiMAX deployments. The standards for the new network should be in place in November. Samsung is a proponent of the technology and hopes to bring out products based on the standard by the end of 2011.

Ray also said LTE will have a richer ecosystem than WiMAX, wich in the US is limited to Clearwire and Sprint.
Until it’s ready to build out its own or license a 4G network, T-Mobile will continue to offer its 42Mbps HSPA+ network, which Ray More >

LG making Windows Phone 7 device with WiMAX for Sprint?
Sep 15th
A posting on WebOSWorld has maintained that an LG handset that runs on Windows Phone 7 has been spotted that may reach Sprint’s 4G network. The device would supposedly run on Sprint’s WiMAX and would be the first non-Android phone to support the faster mobile speeds.
The most likely handset seen so far that would most likely fit this mould is the LG Apollo, possibly known as the E900; it’s been seen using the CDMA and EVDO that Sprint would need, though nothing has been mentioned about 4G. Otherwise, the Apollo’s rumored specs that include a 1.3GHz Snapdragon CPU and 10-megapixel More >
