Time Warner Cable may have WiMAX 4G phone in store
Apr 2nd
Time Warner Cable might dip its toes into its own high-end WiMAX smartphone after an inside leak was corroborated late Thursday. The unnamed hardware was in testing and would use Sprint’s CDMA network for voice with Clearwire’s network handling the WiMAX for 4G data. Few details were available to FierceWireless’ sources, though it’s presumed this would be an Android device.
A company spokesperson took the rare step of acknowledging that at least one mobile device with a phone component was being worked on with a partner company, but he wouldn’t say more.

Fox asks Time Warner to pull channels from iPad TV app
Mar 31st
Fox on Wednesday said it had given a cease-and-desist letter to Time Warner Cable asking it to pull Fox channels from the TWCable TV iPad app. The studio believed Time Warner didn’t have rights to stream its shows on Apple’s tablet, even over the app’s home Wi-Fi limitation. Time Warner hadn’t said to Bloomberg if it would contest the letter but in a post on its company blog reiterated its view that its home TV rights included the iPad.
“Weve got broad rights to provide television programming to every screen in your home,” it said. “We have some agreements that allow More >
Judge orders Time Warner to identify BitTorrent users
Mar 26th
US District Court judge Beryl Howell has ordered Time Warner to hand over identities of 250 subscribers accused of illegally downloading movies. The order appears to reject Time Warner’s argument that the request is excessively time consuming and expensive. The subpoenas involve three cases from movie production companies Maverick, Donkeyball Movie, and Call of the Wild Movie.
Although the judge rejected Time Warner’s request to block the subpoenas from Donkeyball and Call of the Wild, the cable provider does not have to submit information regarding downloads of Maverick movies due to a technicality surrounding the subpoena, according to a post More >

Napster founder and early Facebook shepherd Sean Parker is helping to make a bid that may see him having some control over one of the very music labels that tried to shut him down, insiders said late Friday. He was reportedly teaming up with investors Ron Burkle and Doug Teitelbaum to buy Warner Music Group. While his own personal worth wouldn’t be at stake, AllThingsD understood his interest was in a letter attached to the start of the bidding process.
Warner has been looking to sell itself and has been asking for a minimum offer of $ 2.5 billion.

Time Warner may want longer delays on Netflix, Redbox
Nov 4th
Time Warner is considering a policy change that may bring longer delays for content brought to rental services such as Netflix and Redbox, according to a Bloomberg report. The company suggests its current delay has proven successful, although a change would not be brought until sometime in 2011 when the current deals with partners are set to expire.
“So far the 28-day window has clearly been a success versus no delay,” CEO Jeff Bewkes said during a conference call. “The question of whether we ought to go longer is very much under scrutiny. It may well be a good idea.”
