AT&T denies claims Samsung Focus’ NoDo update disabled HSUPA
Apr 21st
Samsung Focus owners got into a dispute with AT&T on Thursday after claims that the recent NoDo update was disabling HSUPA upload speeds on the phones. Devices allegedly lost the option for theoretical peak 5.6Mbps speeds and were instead locked to the frequently sub-megabit speeds of a regular HSDPA connection, This Is My Next said. The feature has been turned off on most AT&T devices with the exception of the iPhone 4 and modems.
Users have discovered a workaround for the supposed issue, which involves bringing the Windows Phone 7 handset into test mode and switching it over to the faster More >
Motorola Xoom gets update in prep for Flash 10.2
Mar 11th
Motorola in a brief update said it had posted the first firmware update (PDF) for the Xoom. The upgrade includes “required enhancements” to get ready for Flash 10.2. The update would be staggered over the night, though Motorola didn’t say when Flash 10.2 would arrive.
A fix for daylight savings time is also in the patch.
Adobe promised that it would arrive in a few weeks after launch. Despite being advertised as a selling point, Flash didn’t come preloaded as it wasn’t ready in time. The 10.2 version could be a major improvement over past implementation of Flash by adding hardware More >
Microsoft explains late March for NoDo, says no update block
Mar 11th
Microsoft Customer Experience Engineering GM Eric Hautala in an update on Thursday night gave some reasoning behind the decision to delay the WP7 NoDo update to late March. He had decided to spend “some extra time” verifying the update process in the wake of the flawed February update that pushed it back by the extra weeks. It shouldn’t have an effect on the timeframe of the Mango update shown at Mobile World Congress last month, Hautala promised.
He also noted that, despite claims, carriers couldn’t block updates altogether. They had to test updates and could forgo them arriving as soon More >
Windows Phone 7 NoDo update pushed to second half of March
Mar 9th
Microsoft France today said that the NoDo update for Windows Phone 7 was being narrowed down to the “second half of March.” The company at Mobile World Congress had hinted at an early March date.
It didn’t explain the delay, but the repeatedly failing Samsung update was the likely cause. A minor update has had to push out to all phones to get them ready for NoDo’s feature set, but the Focus and Omnia 7 have had problems that either stopped the update or, in the worst cases, bricked the devices entirely and forced a careful restore or a store More >
NoDo update for HTC HD7, Mozart surfaces
Mar 9th
While owners of HTC’s HD7 and Mozart devices still wait for a software update from Microsoft, unofficial builds have surfaced for both devices. The HD7 update and Mozart release, which were posted on the XDA-Developers forums, are both said to be based on the build number 7389, otherwise referred to as the NoDo update.
The hacked ROMs are expected to offer copy-and-paste functionality, an improved browser with HTML5 support, and other performance improvements and minor tweaks. It is unclear if the unofficial builds support the full range of carriers for each device.
