Nintendo 3DS keeps track of hacks, may lead to trade-in bans

Japanese retailer Enterking has publicly announced it will not accept Nintendo 3DS gaming consoles that have been used in conjunction with a hacked memory card for trade-in. The retailer will know whether this happened or not because the portable gaming console logs all activity, which can then be retrieved by those in the industry. Nintendo is attempting to deter pirates with this undertaking.

Verizon accepts iPhones as part of new trade-in program

Verizon has launched a trade-in program aimed at pulling in subscribers from other carriers. Visitors to the Verizon website can have a phone appraised on several different criteria, including make, model and whether or not voice and the display are still usable. Some of the eligible phones notably include the iPhone 4, and 8GB versions of the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Best Buy and Target announce video game trade-in programs, clearly don’t read webcomics

For some reason the used-video-games-as-controversy stars have aligned, and Best Buy and Target picked now of all times to announce new used game trade-in programs. Target is going to offer in store credit for all sorts of electronics trade-ins, including games and DVDs, with just a few stores for now, but expanding to 850 stores by the end of the year. Target isn’t making any mention of reselling that stuff just yet, but Best Buy plans to start selling used games “soon,” on top of the 600 stores it’s launching it own trade-in program in this week.
