Microsoft’s decision to drop Verizon at launch for Windows Phone 7 was a matter of concentrating resources, the company explained late Thursday. Senior product lead Greg Sullivan told CNET that it had to focus only on GSM until the first half of 2011 to make sure it launched smoothly. While it still has yet to confirm most of the details, the desktop chips will range between 2.5GHz dual and 3.4GHz quad models with graphics fast enough to beat entry dedicated video for the first time in an Intel chip.
As it has done in the past, AMD is also hoping to exploit IDF and this year will provide an early More >
Qualcomm may replace Infineon in iPhone 5 design
Sep 11th
Talk of Apple snapping up Qualcomm chipsets for future iPhones gained momentum on Friday with a claim in Taiwan’s Commercial Times that Apple has ordered large amounts of Qualcomm chips. Besides accommodating a CDMA iPhone many expect would ship early next year, the order might also be used for the next-generation model. Apple is already believed to have started work on the next-generation model and should still use Foxconn (Hon Hai) as the manufacturer.
The deal was reportedly forged because of the CDMA version and not because Qualcomm would sell the cellular baseband chips at a lower price than Infineon.
