October 11 Windows Phone 7 event confirmed, T-Mobile coming

Microsoft has quietly detailed that its widely known October 11 event is actually a worldwide launch for Windows Phone 7. The New York City gathering will not only have the first devices and apps but include T-Mobile, not just AT&T. Previously, Microsoft had only mentioned AT&T as a partner.

iPhone 4 launches in China to huge crowds

Apple has enjoyed a huge surge of interest in its iPhone 4 in China. At least one thousand customers lined up at the new Beijing store, with some up to two days before the official launch. They joined 50,000 customers who have already pre-ordered the handset, and does not include the scores who have already obtained one through the booming black market trade in iPhone 4′s leading up to the local launch.

iPhone 4 launches in Korea with 300,000 orders

KT today launched the iPhone 4 in South Korea and already faced a major backlog. The carrier delivered 10,000 Apple devices on launch day but had taken close to 300,000 advance orders by the time doors opened, giving it nearly a month’s worth of orders to fill at its current rate. About 20,000 of those were placed just on Friday, KT said.

Android web use closes gap with iOS in the US for August

Android has significantly closed the gap with Apple in web traffic in the US, Quantcast said on Friday. Use of Google’s mobile OS has climbed 17 percent from the start of the year until August, giving it exactly a quarter of traffic. Apple’s iOS, meanwhile, has lost 11 percent over the same eight months and has a narrower lead at 56 percent.
RIM’s historically poor web browsing experience has kept it mostly flat, at nine percent.
