iPhone prototype emerges with T-Mobile 3G [U]
Apr 24th
(Update: photos and A5 chip) A leak Saturday night has shown what’s purported to be an iPhone 4-based prototype with native 3G on T-Mobile USA’s bands. Identified internally as the N94 versus AT&T’s N90 and Verizon’s N92, the phone is virtually the same save for the frequency change. BGR noted that the proximity sensor cover appeared to be the old design from when the white iPhone was first shown rather than the new look that will show in the shipping white model due next week.
Evidence in the device’s firmware might support it being a legitimate experimental model. Visible apps preloaded on More >
NTT DoCoMo beats T-Mobile to LG Optimus Pad, ships March 31
Mar 28th
NTT DoCoMo announced on Monday it will begin shipping the Optimus Pad L-06C tablet in Japan beginning on Thursday, March 31. NTT will be the first to offer the tablet, as T-Mobile hasn’t officially confirmed its own launch date. It was expected to arrive in the US as the G-Slate on March 23 but missed that date and is more likely to ship April 20.
The 8.9-inch Optimus Pad L-06C is similar to its world counterparts and uses Android 3.0 on a 1280×768 touchscreen. There are dual five-megapixel cameras that support stereoscopic 3D photos and videos, though the display is More >
T-Mobile G2x only phone to support AT&T bands
Mar 28th
The T-Mobile G2x is the first and only phone that, should the deal between AT&T and T-Mobile be approved, will support AT&T’s 850 and 1,900MHz bands. It otherwise has support for T-Mobile’s 3G/4G bands and the global roaming 2,100MHz frequency. AT&T plans to use T-Mobile AWS network for its future LTE-based 4G network.
This switch would make all other current T-Mobile 3G and 4G devices into much slower ones, offering speeds not much faster than those on EDGE networks.
The deal will not go through without changes, if it goes through at all, however, according to an FCC official. [via More >
Promo materials hint HTC Flyer coming to T-Mobile USA
Mar 28th
A detailed leak on Sunday has given clues that the HTC Flyer should come to T-Mobile, and possibly the US. Detailed marketing materials, including in-store stands, have clearly attached the Android 2.3 tablet to the carrier. PocketNow‘s copies don’t explicitly name the US, but one shot shows a T-Mobile YouTube channel; only the US has a presence on the video page.
An American T-Mobile version would have to switch to its native 3G bands and might move to HSPA+ to get some added speed. It would be unlikely to move away from the 1.5GHz Snapdragon, rear five-megapixel camera and front More >
FCC official: no way AT&T T-Mobile deal will go unaltered
Mar 24th
An anonymous FCC official on Wednesday night said that the proposed AT&T buyout of T-Mobile would very likely go through major changes if it were to be approved at all. He was careful to note the deal hadn’t yet been under formal investigation but was confident FCC chair Julius Genachowski would either require conditions or ban the deal. The WSJ didn’t learn which of the two was the more likely but was told a greenlight was a virtual impossibility.
“There’s no way the chairman’s office rubber-stamps this transaction,” the FCC staffer said. “It will be a steep climb to say the More >
