Foxconn takes surprising $218.3m loss

Foxconn International Holdings, a unit of the Foxconn Technology Group that builds numerous electronics devices, including Apple’s iPad, has posted a much larger net loss, at $ 218.3 million, for 2010 than analysts predicted. This was due to increased costs and lower sales, and resulted in falling shares. In 2009, the company posted a net income of $ 38.6 million.
The mean estimate from seven analysts talking to Bloomberg was a loss of $ 202 million. The stock is the lowest it has been in almost two years.

T-Mobile takes on new CEO early

T-Mobile USA on Tuesday surprised everyone by announcing a new CEO will join its ranks much earlier than expected. Previously, the company was expected to replace current CEO Robert Dotson in 2011, but Philipp Humm has already become the new president and CEO. Dotson is now the vice chairman of the T-Mobile USA Board.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead T-Mobile toward future growth and plan to continually improve the way we serve our customers,” Humm said of his new appointment.

Foxconn’s second salary hike takes effect

The promised second round of pay raises for Foxconn factory workers is due to come into effect in October, according to a Friday report. The company, which has come under pressure from its customers over worker suicides at its Shenzen factory, will boost assembly line worker salaries by two-thirds, with monthly wages amounting to the equivalent of $ 299. The raise is the second of the year.
The pay raise will be seen by about 85 percent of the workers at the plant. Back in June, the company issued a 30 percent pay raise to its Shenzen employees.

Nikon Coolpix P7000 allegedly seen, takes cue from Canon

Nikon’s repeatedly rumored Coolpix P7000 semi-pro camera may have been spotted just ahead of a launch this evening. The camera would take more of a direct cue from the Canon G11 with a large optical viewfinder directly above the lens. Accordingly, Nikon Rumors‘ image would give the camera much more control with two extra, dedicated dials and a function button for programmable commands.
