Time Warner Cable may have WiMAX 4G phone in store
Apr 2nd
Time Warner Cable might dip its toes into its own high-end WiMAX smartphone after an inside leak was corroborated late Thursday. The unnamed hardware was in testing and would use Sprint’s CDMA network for voice with Clearwire’s network handling the WiMAX for 4G data. Few details were available to FierceWireless’ sources, though it’s presumed this would be an Android device.
A company spokesperson took the rare step of acknowledging that at least one mobile device with a phone component was being worked on with a partner company, but he wouldn’t say more.

Apple sues Amazon over ‘App Store’ trademark
Mar 22nd
A court revealed on Monday that Apple had sued Amazon for allegedly infringing on a trademark with the Amazon Appstore. The iPhone maker claimed that the start of developer support for the Android shop was a misuse of the App Store name. Apple said it had asked Amazon three times to stop using the name without a “substantive response” before turning to the lawsuit.
“We’ve asked Amazon not to copy the App Store name because it will confuse and mislead customers,” spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said.
The lawsuit, filed on Friday, was made public just a day before Amazon’s store was to More >
Apple rumored already scrapping Grand Central store plans
Mar 20th
Not long after the rumor that Apple was planning on opening an Apple Store at the Grand Central Terminal, a counter-rumor has emerged claiming that the plan has already been scrapped. The application for the store was only preliminary and has now reportedly fallen through.
The plans for the store would have made it the largest Apple retail outlet, outstripping even the Covent Garden store in London that spans 16,000 square feet. It More >

Mar 18th
Market research group Distimo has compiled a report on the Mac App Store showing that it is off to a relatively slow start compared with the number of iOS apps available through the iTunes App Store at the same stage. The Distimo report shows that the Mac App Store had 2,225 apps available at the two-month mark, which amounts to around a quarter of the number of apps that had become available for the iPad over the same timeframe. App developers on the Mac App Store in the top 300 rankings also pulled in half the revenue, on average, of More >
Report: 5th Avenue Apple Store sold 7,200 iPad 2s on launch
Mar 15th
About 7,200 iPad 2 tablets changed hands at the 5th Avenue Apple Store alone on launch day, a tipster said Monday night. The tally suggests that the 1,109 initial buyers were joined by thousands more within the hours after the 5PM opening. SAI didn’t get buyer attach rates, though many are known to have bought two or more for friends and family.
The mix supports beliefs that Apple had very strong sales. Virtually all of Apple’s 236 American retail stores sold out of their initial stock and were accompanied by AT&T, Best Buy, Verizon, Target, Walmart, and reseller stores that may More >
