Toshiba’s R800 notebooks to start at $889 with Sandy Bridge

Toshiba’s R800-series notebooks, which were detailed in recent reports, have finally been paired with prices and detailed specs. The company’s website lists several R835 configurations, including an $ 889 option with Intel’s Sandy Bridge Core i3 processor running at 2.1GHz. Moving up to $ 929 jumps to a Core i5 processor running at 2.3GHz.

RIM makes BlackBerry App World development easier to start

RIM has worked to streamline the enrollment process for the App World developer program, following complaints from a number of users. The company initially required applicants to submit notarized proof of identity, however the terms have been relaxed to accept a faxed or e-mailed driver’s license copy without notarization.
“We learned that [the notarization requirement] has become a pain point for some developers,” said RIM’s VP of developer relations, Tyler Lessard, in a recent blog post. “So we have been working behind the scenes to remove this barrier.”

Amazon to start Kindle book lending, port magazines to iPad

Amazon today sent word that it would add a Nook-style lending system to Kindle readers and apps. The licensing would give the same option to lend each book once for up to 14 days to someone else’s account. Copy protection would prevent the original reader from seeing the text until the new reader is finished or the time runs out.
As with Barnes & Noble’s implementation, not every book will allow the feature. Publishers will have the final say over whether or not lending is an option.

Best Buy to start Free Phone Fridays with Samsung Fascinate

Best Buy Mobile on Tuesday announced it will start a Free Phone Fridays promotion on every Friday in October, starting October 1. There will be four phones available to represent AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. They will cost nothing but will require signing a two-year contract.
The deals will be available in Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores, as well as online. T-Mobile G2 preorders to start Friday

An escaped T-Mobile memo tonight has given away that T-Mobile will start taking preorders for the G2 on Friday, September 24. The TmoNews scoop has the network taking preorders online, in stores and through upgrades from tomorrow through to October 4. As inadvertently confirmed earlier, the actual launch will take place two days later, on October 6.
The G2 should cost $ 200 on a two-year contract.
