T-Mobile Galaxy Tab at $399 on contract, stacked up vs. iPad
Oct 11th
A slip of T-Mobile’s marketing material for the Samsung Galaxy Tab tonight may have given away its pricing as well as T-Mobile’s strategy for trying to sway iPad buyers. Similar to the Sprint leak, the device would still cost $ 399 with a contract and after a $ 50 rebate. TmoNews‘ copy of the dealer partner sheets would have the Android tablet cost slightly more than the 3G iPad when off-contract, despite the smaller screen, at $ 650.
To persuade buyers, the carrier told sellers to focus on the device’s strong points, albeit with inaccuracies. A side-by-side look points out More >
AT&T, T-Mobile to have cell service in New York City subways
Oct 4th
Efforts to install wireless in New York City subways gained a significant boost late on Friday as Transit Wireless said it had reached deals with AT&T and T-Mobile to provide cellphone access at subway stations. The two GSM carriers have a 10-year agreement to link their phones to Transit Wireless’ network in a plan that will eventually reach all 277 terminals in the city. Either carrier will have the option of renewing its deals in five-year blocks for four instances, representative Pat Smith told Bloomberg.
The agreements are coups for both carriers but particularly AT&T. The carrier has had a More >
HTC to ship LTE-based 4G phone in 2011
Sep 24th
The CEO of HTC, Peter Chou, said in a recent interview with FierceWireless that the company will release an LTE-compatible handset sometime in 2011. The move is in line with leaked plans from Verizon for LTE handsets to work on the carrier’s 4G network. Chou refrained to release any other details concerning the device, including dates, models or prices.
Verizon Wireless aims to launch LTE services in about 30 markets before year’s end, where it won’t see competition until sometime next year from AT&T. In Las Vegas, MetroPCS launched LTE services and a compatible Samsung handset this week.

LG making Windows Phone 7 device with WiMAX for Sprint?
Sep 15th
A posting on WebOSWorld has maintained that an LG handset that runs on Windows Phone 7 has been spotted that may reach Sprint’s 4G network. The device would supposedly run on Sprint’s WiMAX and would be the first non-Android phone to support the faster mobile speeds.
The most likely handset seen so far that would most likely fit this mould is the LG Apollo, possibly known as the E900; it’s been seen using the CDMA and EVDO that Sprint would need, though nothing has been mentioned about 4G. Otherwise, the Apollo’s rumored specs that include a 1.3GHz Snapdragon CPU and 10-megapixel More >

Intel used the second day of its Developer Forum to show the production version of its Tunnel Creek processor. The newly re-labeled Atom E600 (PDF) is built for embedded devices like tablets, in-car systems and fixed phones. Apart from putting all main functions on the processor, it also has an open PCI Express interface to connect to not just non-Intel chipsets but other components.
A variant on the E600, nicknamed Stellarton, also makes for a more modular design that lets hardware designers customize the hardware further. The chip package can include a third-party component such as a hardware accelerator or More >
