Sony quietly upgraded its PC lineup on Sunday with speed and option upgrades across a handful of its models. The VAIO E series gets most of the updates with options for the slightly faster 2.66GHz Core i5 580M and 2.53GHz Core i5 460M, as well as a new 2GHz Pentium dual-core option for budget build-to-order models. The EA and EB also now have options for Mobility Radeon HD 5650 video and 1080p displays to match, while every E series sees purple return as a color choice.

Nikon Q may be mirrorless interchangeable camera mount

Nikon’s plans for a small interchangeable lens camera may have garnered support on Friday as a tease from an anonymous source hinted at what might be its mounting system. What appears to be a dry run for a presentation obtained by Nikon Rumors shows slides with “Nikon Q” and a stylized logo underneath. Another shows the Q over the lens area on the darkened frame of what looks like a pro camera, implying a new lens format other than DX or FX.

Sony demos prototype flexible e-paper display

Sony today unveiled a prototype flexible monochromatic e-paper display at is annual Japanese dealer convention. Typically, e-paper uses a glass substrate, but Sony has developed a plastic substrate to give the display the ability to bend. Sony also demonstrated how the new e-paper is resistant to breaks when dropped and how the display can be rolled. An added advantage of the plastic substrate is its comparative lightness, which opens up the possibility for wider applications in devices such as future Sony e-readers.

LG confirms WP7-packing Optimus 7 with flick-based sharing

LG at the end of the IFA show confirmed the existence of the Windows Phone 7-based GW910 and detailed its signature feature. The newly-christened Optimus 7 will support DLNA+ media sharing and can push any audio, photos or video to a host device with a gesture. A flick automatically moves the video to a DLNA-aware TV, a PS3 or a similar hub without the elaborate effort.

Nikon president hints again at mini pro camera

Nikon president Makoto Kimura in a new interview has dropped hints again at an in-between camera. He told Reuters the company wanted a camera “different from SLRs and compacts” and hoped to create a new category. It wouldn’t be like typical mirrorless models, although Kimura wasn’t clear on whether it would still be mirrored or occupy a pro point-and-shoot space like the Canon G11.
