New DirectTV TiVo delayed into 2011

The DirectTV TiVo that was set to be delivered before the end of 2010 has now been delayed until 2011. CEO Tom Rogers has indicated that beta testing for the device will continue into next January. TiVo executives have also begun to suggest that TiVo will begin to shift towards service delivery, rather purely on manufacturing hardware.

Nokia contest with AT&T hints at carrier-bound N8

Nokia and AT&T dropped hints of a possible AT&T-locked N8 with a $ 10 million contest for developers. The exclusively-run giveaway will reward those writing apps for the Ovi Store tailored for North America, including the N8. Everyone attending a special October 5 developer day ahead of the CTIA phone expo will be taught specifically how to write with the N8 in mind and will get a free N8 developer kit to get them started.

Consumer Reports: end to iPhone 4 case program is unfair

Consumer Reports today chastised Apple for the decision to end its iPhone case program at the end of the month. Resorting to contact with AppleCare is “less consumer-friendly” as it forces customers to do more work to address signal drop problems and limits their choices to just Apple’s Bumper case. The magazine reiterated that it still won’t recommend the iPhone 4 as free cases don’t address the root cause of the signal issue, an external antenna that isn’t insulated accidentally bridging antennas and stifling reception.

TomTom offers up free iPhone 4 adapter for GPS car kit

TomTom is now offering a free adapter to owners of the car kit to mount the iPhone 4 in their vehicle. Kits shipped starting in September include the new mount, while those who purchased the kits before that can claim the mount starting on September 10.
