All-touchscreen webOS smartphone leaks with Verizon Pre 3

A picture of what is purported to be the first webOS smartphone to feature an all-touchscreen has surfaced courtesy of a PreCentral tipster. The current HP Pre 2 and the forthcoming HP Pre 3 have followed in the footsteps of the original Palm Pre and feature very similar sliding designs that combine a physical QWERTY keyboard with a touchscreen interface. The original Pre, one of the first smartphones to combine a physical keyboard and touchscreen, generated a lot of excitement early as it was seen as an ideal cross between a Blackberry and a modern touch OS similar to iOS.

Aircell delivers first Android smartphone for aircraft

Aircell, a well-known provider of inflight connectivity has delivered the Aircell Smartphone cabin handset for business aircraft. The Aircell Smartphone allows passengers to place and receive voice calls aboard business aircraft just as they would with a terrestrial mobile phone. Clearwire slashes 15% of jobs, freezes smartphone plans

Clearwire today reported major losses that prompted it to take dramatic action and conserve its resources. After a net loss of $ 564.6 million, the 4G service said it would take “cash conservation measures” and cut 15 percent of its entire workforce. The plan will also see it delay plans for its own smartphones and stop development of future retail stores. It characterized itself as an “early-stage” network for whom losses were part of its growth phase, but it also warned that problems were immediate and that there were no guarantees it could survive past mid-2011.

RIM allows BlackBerry App World purchases over the web

RIM has began allowing owners of its BlackBerry smartphones to make BlackBerry App World purchases right from the website rather than directly through their handsets. The newfound capability also lets users edit their My World accounts so it syncs with the smartphone, more like the relationship between the iPhone and iTunes.
Users will need to download a Windows installer to enable these changes, however. As of time of writing, no other OS is supported. Payment choices include PayPal, a credit card or carrier billing, if the network allows.
