Kyocera rumored entering tablets with Katsura gaming slate

Kyocera may be the next to jump into the tablet game based on a rumor emerging late Friday. Supposedly called the Katsura (“tree’), the slate would have a wider aspect ratio than most and bears a very basic similarity to the Huawei S7 Slim. Details of the innards were slim, but Android Community‘s claimed photos showed a very elaborate embossed back pattern likely calling on Kyocera’s Japanese roots.
The design would be a gaming tablet that would become a tablet equivalent to the Xperia Play. Other than its running Android, though, little else was given out.

ASUS Eee Slate gets April 10 release in UK

The ASUS Eee Slate introduced at CES has now received a ship date for the UK thanks to a listing on Amazon. The 12.1-inch tablet PC will cost the equivalent of $ 1,627 (£1,000) and has a 1.86GHz Core i5 CPU and 4GB of RAM. There is also a 64GB solid state drive onboard.
Also accounted for is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, a two-megapixel front-facing camera and Windows 7 Home Premium. Outputting HD videos is possible thanks to an HDMI port.

Microsoft’s Eee Slate ads hope to lure away iPad 2 buyers

Microsoft and ASUS on Friday ramped up a video ad campaign (below) to steer possible iPad 2 converts towards the Eee Slate. The four spots all focus on one person’s use case, such an artist, a blogger, a business owner, or a mother, to show how the Windows 7 tablet helped them out. Each of them is consciously aimed at those who might consider Apple and show either an area Microsoft believed it had an edge, like Office support, or directly attack a perceived iPad flaw.

HP Slate sees surprise demand, orders delayed into 2011 [U]

(Update: sales figures) HP’s Slate 500 has seen an unexpected level of interest that has pushed new orders back into the new year, early buyers have noted this week. Existing customers at HardOCP and elsewhere have had orders pushed back anywhere from two weeks to “indefinitely.” Those visiting the order page are now being told that the “extraordinary demand” has pushed the system back six weeks, or enough for them to reach into 2011.

HP confirms launch details for Slate 500 tablet

HP has finally confirmed launch information and specs for its forthcoming Slate 500 tablet, which has already been detailed in several recent leaks. As expected, the Windows 7 device will be powered by Intel’s 1.86GHz Atom Z540 processor and Graphics Media Accelerator 500 chip. It relies on an 8.9-inch, 1024×600 display as its sole interface.
