AT&T phasing out Video Share in wake of smartphones

AT&T in a statement said its long-running Video Share service would be shut down later in 2011. The one-way video calling was bowing out to make room for the “next generation” of mobile video services. A spokesman alluded to a possible replacement as the company was “evaluating new platforms” that it could use.
Many of those paying for Video Share would be reached directly and given new options.

IE9 nabs 3.6% Windows web share, Microsoft still down

Internet Explorer 9′s launch was enough to see it carve out a significant piece of the Windows web in its first two weeks. New data from NetApplications for March showed IE9 getting 3.56 percent of Microsoft’s web traffic. While small, it was enough to outpace Firefox 4′s 2.8 percent.
IE8 now down to 51.57 percent.

Google won’t share Android 3.0 source early on

Google in an interview saidthat it wasn’t giving out the source code to Android 3.0 for well after the launch. Engineering VP Andy Rubin claimed to BusinessWeek that it could be months away as the code had been rushed to make the Xoom launch date. Rovi’s new Android platform uses DLNA to share media

Rovi is joining Skifta in enabling DLNA-based media streaming for Android devices. While the Skifta platform has been detailed and revolves around users downloading an Android application for their mobile device and an app for their desktop to enable media streaming, details of the Rovi solution has not yet been made available.

iPhone still edging out Android in US share, desirability

Despite claims to the contrary, Apple may still have the lead not just in US smartphone market share but also in demand, Nielsen said today. As of October, the iPhone had 27.9 percent of share of those asked, which was not just ahead of Android’s 22.7 percent but just ahead of RIM’s 27.4 percent. Among those looking at smartphone upgrades, 30 percent were looking to buy an iPhone while Android was at 28 percent; just 13 percent were planning to get a BlackBerry, the study showed.
