Apr 18th
A source claimed Sunday night that Samsung was looking to sell off its hard drive business. The Korean company had set a target price of $ 1.5 billion but was eager enough to sell it for under $ 1 billion if it couldn’t fetch the intended target. Seagate was the only named candidate from the Wall Street Journal‘s tip, but it wasn’t clear how likely the US company was to land the deal.
Samsung had warned earlier this month that it would see profits shrink rapidly in its winter quarter results. Its hard drive segment was one of those at More >

Analyst: Amazon to sell 5 million Kindles, fend off iPad
Sep 29th
Barclays Capital analyst Douglas Anmuth today estimated that Amazon would sell about five million Kindle readers this year. The company should thrive on the combination of the redesign and the lower $ 139 price. The numbers would more than double over the course of the next two years to reach 11.5 million in 2012.
Anmuth expected the price gap to keep Amazon safe from the effect of the iPad. The new Kindles create a “bifurcated” market where cheap, narrow purpose e-readers occupy the high-end multi-purpose environment, he said. He added that Amazon would nonetheless reap the benefits of work by More >
