Toys R Us confirms iPad 2 on sale, coming April 17
Apr 17th
Toys R Us has quietly confirmed its plans to carry the iPad 2. The company now has a shopping page telling buyers which stores should carry the tablet. No online store entry exists, though one wasn’t expected since no third-party resellers can currently offer it for sale online.
The company hasn’t been given timing, but a companion leak coming from 9to5 has stores carrying stock as of Sunday, April 17. Its plans will deliberately confine the sales to the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi models and will only offer white for the 16GB version. Smart Covers will also be in store, but More >
iPad 2 goes on sale in US, early online orders shipping
Mar 13th
As promised, Apple today began selling the iPad 2 in the US. The tablet launched to hundreds in line at Apple’s larger stores. The first in line at Apple’s 5th Avenue store was Hazem Sayed, an iOS app developer who bought the position for $ 900 from student Amanda Foote.
Supply has been low at some stores; early reports have mentioned stores like Walmart or Best Buy having just a few models and selling out almost instantly. Apple often reserves most of the stock for itself to meet expectations, but supply was expected to be larger at some third-party shops. More >
Toshiba’s AC100 Android smartbook on sale in UK
Sep 6th
Toshiba’s UK wing today finally started taking orders for its first Android device, the AC100. Its smartbook unveiled in June is available in its Wi-Fi-only version for £293 ($ 451). The core model ships with 8GB of storage, although Toshiba’s site incorrectly mentions 128GB.
All versions of the 10-inch, Android 2.1 ultraportable run on NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 250, giving it HD support both on its main display and through HDMI, as well as 512MB of RAM. Choosing ARM instead of Intel gives the AC100 eight hours of battery life even with a light 1.9-pound weight.

Dual-core Atom-powered Gigabyte and Lenovo netbooks up for sale in Australia
Aug 26th
As promised, we’ve been keeping an ear to the ground on Intel’s new mobile, dual-core Atom processor, and as luck would have it a number of netbooks are popping up with the new CPU baked in…well, at least in the land down under. Australian e-tailer Pena.au has 10.1-inch netbooks from both Gigabyte and Lenovo listed on its site with the fresh 1.5GHz Atom N550 processor. The Gigabyte T1005M convertible — or netvertible, as we like to call it — is much like the T1000, and still has a 1,366×768 pixel capacitive touch display, USB 3.0 ports, and an eSATA jack. More >
