HTC may ship just 1m Flyer tablets by August with $600 price
Mar 7th
HTC may have set modest expectations for the Flyer tablet based on claims on Monday from a Taiwanese newspaper. The Commercial Times said the seven-inch tablet’s orders between now and August would reach just one million, suggesting only about 167,000 Flyers shipping per month if it were to launch immediately. It wasn’t clear which countries would get the Flyer first, but it’s rumored the US may get it as the Evo View through Sprint.
Pricing may be a fatal setback, Digitimes added. The device is believed to cost as much as $ 600 off-contract despite the smaller screen size. HTC has never More >
Samsung says Galaxy Tab 10.1 to stay the same, mum on price
Mar 6th
Samsung on Saturday quickly but only partially backtracked from executive comments that raised the possibility of a last-minute Galaxy Tab 10.1 change to counter the iPad 2. The Android 3.0 tablet would ship “as scheduled” instead of the delays alluded to, though not confirmed, by mobile executive VP Lee Don-joo. He wouldn’t say to Yonhap when the actual release would take place.
The company didn’t rule out the price cuts mentioned by Lee. He had told the Korean publication on Friday that it was originally going to charge extra over the seven-inch Galaxy Tab but had second thoughts when the iPad More >
Motorola Xoom back for UK pre-order at £500 price
Mar 2nd
The Wi-Fi only version of the Motorola Xoom tablet is now available for preorder in the UK from PC World for £500 (US $ 815). Earlier reports had pegged the price of the Wi-Fi Xoom slightly lower, at £449 (US $ 730), about $ 100 less than the 32GB Wi-Fi-only iPad in the UK. Motorola’s pricing strategy will be critical to the Xoom gaining traction in the tablet segment.
Apple currently dominates the tablet market, and announced today that the iPad 2 will start shipping on March 11. [via Inquirer]
iPad 2 vs. PlayBook, TouchPad, Xoom: same speed, lower price
Mar 2nd
Many competitors have been benchmarking their tablets against the original iPad, but the iPad 2 is now here and promises to change the game. Apple now has the speed and cameras to back itself up, but is it as good or better a buy? We’ve put the iPad 2 in a comparison with the BlackBerry PlayBook, HP TouchPad and Motorola Xoom to see how Apple holds up, especially on the matter of price.
In terms of performance, the gap between the iPad and other tablets is now virtually non-existent: much of RIM’s performance bragging for the PlayBook is now obsolete, More >
Moto Droid 2 price drops to $150 ahead of Droid 2 Global
Nov 1st
Motorola’s Droid 2 Global edged closer to release on Monday with a price slash to the Droid 2 at Verizon. The device, which only shipped in August, has already dropped from its original $ 200 on contract to $ 150. The move hinted that Verizon is clearing out stock for the world roaming version.
The cut was accompanied by a similar cut on the HTC Droid Incredible, though this may be to prepare for the upcoming HTC Merge and not the Motorola phone.
