Nintendo rules out getting into phones to chase Apple, Sony
Apr 4th
Nintendo’s US president Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview on Friday ruled out the prospect of a phone. The console maker had “no desire” to get into the business and expected it could compete with Apple, Microsoft, and Sony through a dedicated gaming device. He didn’t see Nintendo as having expertise it could bring to bear in the area and told CNN that phones were almost antithetical to a game system like the 3DS.
“Phones are utilities,” he explained. “Phones are not by definition entertainment devices.”

Mar 29th
Amazon’s rumored online media locker could arrive as soon as Tuesday but with major limitations in place. However it would launch, the service would let users upload their own personal content, not just media they’d bought from More >
Adobe Flash 10.2 to reach Android phones, tablets March 18

Owners of the Xoom and future 3.0 tablets will see pages rendered directly in the website itself rather than layered over top. The approach greatly improves scrolling, especially when mixed with animated GIF images and other more complicated content.

The company was also adding a “number of measures” in the Market to prevent more hostile apps and was working with phone makers and More >
Samsung making joint platform for TVs, phones
Oct 20th
Samsung’s Visual Display VP Kyungsik Kevin Lee today said in an interview that the company is developing a unified platform for both TVs and smartphones. The executive didn’t have a timetable as it was still early, but he noted to Reuters that Internet-capable TVs were growing quickly. Shipments would be just five million this year but should double in 2011.
The strategy hints that company may expand the use of its Bada OS beyond just the pseudo-smartphones it makes, such as the Wave. It has had relatively limited success persuading buyers to pick Bada over its more popular Android models but More >
