Google has released the latest version of its Chrome browser in beta form. The release notes for Chrome 11.0.696.16 highlights two significant updates to the browser, including an HTML5 speech input API and GPU-accelerated 3D CSS. Additionally, the browser now sports a new Chrome icon.
Googles Chrome Blog adds that the HTML5 speech input API is the result of work that Google has been undertaking with the HTML5 Speech Incubator Group. Nokia’s X1-00 phone packs music for just $47 off-contract

Nokia on Tuesday brought out a rare phone aimed at bringing music listening to the developing world. The X1-00 has a 3.5mm headphone jack, MP3 playback and a microSDHC slot like most modern phones, but adds touches for areas where it might have to double as the home stereo. A very large speaker is loud enough to fill even a noisy area without distortion, and an FM radio supplies content for those who can’t justify digital tracks.

Toshiba StorE TV+ networked media drive packs 2TB

Toshiba UK on Thursday introduced the StorE TV+, a set-top box that lets users play back local multimedia content and that stored on their home PCs from their living room TVs. It contains a 2TB hard drive and connects to TVs via an HDMI port. Its hardware lets it playback HD content, and contains a wide range of audio and video codecs.

Samsung Wave 723 packs Bada, built-in leather flip cover

Samsung grew its fledgling Bada-based phone line today by launching the Wave 723. Although a step below the original Wave with a 3.2-inch LCD instead of the more exotic Super AMOLED, it stands out through a unique leather flip cover built into the body itself to protect the phone’s screen.
