RIM demos PlayBook at Adobe MAX, vows some free dev units

RIM at Adobe’s MAX conference today showed the first instance of the BlackBerry PlayBook running live. The demos showed a mix of both real and concept apps, including a concept health care app, HD video, Salesforce Chatter and SAP’s business tools like CIO Cockpit. All of the apps were shown running on Adobe AIR, which is now the official SDK for RIM’s new tablet.

More evidence of iLife í11 and iWork í11 imminent refresh

BestBuy.com is listing iLife and iWork as backordered in further evidence of an imminent refresh that is expected at Apples Back to Mac media event next week. This follows a listing for an iLife 11 third-party user guide being made available for pre-order on Amazon UKs website. Amazon.com is also listing an iLife 11 Family Pack.

12% of US paper readers likely to get an e-reader this year

A new Kindle or Nook, but 12 percent said they were likely to buy one within a year. They were also more likely to have bought books of any kind and were more likely to read books as a whole compared to those who clung to paper.
The findings didn’t break down the current or planned adoption by model. Apple licenses tech from TV guide maker Rovi

Apple in an SEC filing today revealed that it has struck a “multi-year agreement” with Rovi in what may be a strategy to support the new Apple TV. The terms are considered secret but will let Apple license Rovi’s technology over the course of the deal. Neither company has commented on the plans.
