Nikon’s plans for a small interchangeable lens camera may have garnered support on Friday as a tease from an anonymous source hinted at what might be its mounting system. What appears to be a dry run for a presentation obtained by Nikon Rumors shows slides with “Nikon Q” and a stylized logo underneath. Another shows the Q over the lens area on the darkened frame of what looks like a pro camera, implying a new lens format other than DX or FX.
The company has only said so far that it wants to implement a new class of camera before the More >

Nikon president Makoto Kimura in a new interview has dropped hints again at an in-between camera. He told Reuters the company wanted a camera “different from SLRs and compacts” and hoped to create a new category. It wouldn’t be like typical mirrorless models, although Kimura wasn’t clear on whether it would still be mirrored or occupy a pro point-and-shoot space like the Canon G11.
The camera is still thought to be on track for a launch before the end of Nikon’s fiscal year ending in March. With virtually no leaks so far, the camera is unlikely to show at the Photokina More >

Canon on Tuesday revealed the world’s largest CMOS image sensor for digital cameras. Sized at 202x205mm, the sensor has superior night-vision capabilities thanks to its large size, requiring one one-hundredth of the light required by a professional, modern DSLR. The chip is one of the largest that can be made from a 300mm wafer and is about 40 times larger that Canon’s largest commercial CMOS sensor.
The problem of added data signal processing time usually associated with such large sensors has been solved by incorporating a new circuit design. The size allows shooting 60FPS video with just 0.3 lux of More >
Mysterious Verizon-bound HTC handset appears mysteriously on the internet
Aug 28th
Hey — what’s this? Well, from the looks of it, it’s a new, as-yet-unnamed HTC device. There is perilously little info available about the mystery mobile, but it appears to boast an 8 megapixel camera with a flash plus a front-facing camera, a 4.3-inch screen, a headphone jack and a kickstand. It also appears that it’s going to boast HTC’s own Sense UI. This falls in line with what we’ve heard about Verizon’s Android-heavy fall launch this year, so we would not be surprised to see this device make an appearance. Furthermore, we could go out on a limb and More >

Nikon
Some details of the upcoming successor to Nikon’s Coolpix P6000 point and shoot digital camera have been revealed by NikonRumors. The sensor’s megapixel count will be reduced from 13.5 to 10, and it will be slightly bigger, at 1/1.7 inches versus 1/1.72 inches. The lens, however, will have more reach, as it will have an equivalent range of 28 to 200mm, rather than the P6000′s 28-112mm glass.
The focal length is only slightly changed, from f/2.7-5.9 to f/2.8-5.6. In comparison, the Canon G11 Nikon reportedly sees as the P700’0′s competitor sports a 28-140mm, f2.8-4.5 lens.
