Nikon makes D5100 official with ISO 102,400 night video
Apr 5th
Nikon tonight brought out its long planned D5100. The camera has a brand new, 180 degree variable swiveling LCD with a sharp 921,000-pixel output and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Video is the same 1080p30 as on the D3100 and D7000, but a sensor tweak gives it a new Night Vision mode for very low light: it can record in ISO 102,400 to get the moment when seeing the shot is more important than the amount of noise.
The camera normally shoots in an ISO 100 to 6,400 sensitivity range with an override option to hit 25,600. Beginners get a new More >
Review: Nikon Coolpix P7000
Mar 13th
When serious photo enthusiasts have desired a pocket-style camera to carry along when the big rigs were too much, there were only a few places they could look for a suitable tool. Canon has had its well-received G-series cameras, Panasonic has come to the game with the LX5, and Samsung has its new EX1. The Japanese company had given early signs last month that the camera was on its way out but hasn’t publicly confirmed if or when the D5000 would exit. A successor also hasn’t been spotted so far.
Nikon’s reasons for keeping the camera have largely vanished. Apart from its swiveling display, many of its features have been More >
Nikon Q may be mirrorless interchangeable camera mount
Sep 17th
Nikon’s plans for a small interchangeable lens camera may have garnered support on Friday as a tease from an anonymous source hinted at what might be its mounting system. What appears to be a dry run for a presentation obtained by Nikon Rumors shows slides with “Nikon Q” and a stylized logo underneath. Another shows the Q over the lens area on the darkened frame of what looks like a pro camera, implying a new lens format other than DX or FX.
The company has only said so far that it wants to implement a new class of camera before the More >
