Verizon teases 4G, to sell devices at Best Buy

Verizon today put up a teaser page for its upcoming 4G service. The site doesn’t offer clues as to a launch window but does mention the benefits of the network, such as its promised 5-12Mbps of bandwidth and the lower lag inherent to LTE. Prospective subscribers can sign up to be notified when the network reaches 30 cities in the fall.
Simultaneously, Best Buy has sent a memo telling staff that the stores will carry Verizon 4G hardware in the fall. The Droid-Life tipster also said that Best Buy’s internal cellular activation system, BEAST, is already prepared to activate 4G hardware. More >

A hidden page on Verizon’s official Droid marketing page hints that the long delayed Android 2.2 upgrade for the Motorola Droid X might be ready to launch soon. The mobile-optimized site discovered today refers to the upgrade as having launched and recaps a brief number of features, such as support for Flash 10.1, automatic updates and more rotation. No timestamp exists to confirm if the release is close, but its existence implies Verizon is getting ready; it was posted on September 10.

Motorola Droid 2 ad takes dig at Apple’s lack of Flash

Motorola this weekend poked fun at Apple again with another ad, this time for the Droid 2. The full-page newspaper spread riffs on Apple’s “there’s an app for that” iPhone spots with the simple question “Flash websites? There’s a phone for that.” It argues that Flash is “compromise-free” web browsing as it allegedly shows all the contents other phones, like the iPhone, might miss.
“Flash sites require Flash capabilities,” it reads. “Seemed pretty simple to us.”
