Harris: Motorola, HP pip Apple for best-valued tech brands
Apr 12th
A new Harris study on Tuesday provided a rare upset for Apple as it was outranked in two categories for the best-regarded brand by users. Motorola outranked it in a large January survey of Americans, giving the Droid creator a top score of 64.4 among phone makers where Apple managed 59.3. It wasn’t even second place as the study also put HTC (60.6), Sony Ericsson (59.8), and even Nokia (59.5) slightly higher.
The uncharacteristic gap was attributed not to Android but to basic feature phones. Without anything of the sort to give phone users, Apple wasn’t reaching as many people More >

Mar 11th
Motorola in a brief update said it had posted the first firmware update (PDF) for the Xoom. The upgrade includes “required enhancements” to get ready for Flash 10.2. The update would be staggered over the night, though Motorola didn’t say when Flash 10.2 would arrive.
A fix for daylight savings time is also in the patch.
Adobe promised that it would arrive in a few weeks after launch. Despite being advertised as a selling point, Flash didn’t come preloaded as it wasn’t ready in time. The 10.2 version could be a major improvement over past implementation of Flash by adding hardware More >

Mar 6th
Motorola in a statement to recent owners of the Xoom that the tablet would get its 4G upgrade regardless of whether or not the firmware is stock. Those who root the device won’t be guaranteed a successful upgrade but will at least be given an attempt. If the update fails, Motorola will still install the LTE modem so they can try again later, it said.
The policy is a reversal from what had been suggested earlier, where Motorola had insisted the firmware be stock before it would plug in the 4G upgrade. It still recommends that users stay on official More >
