Contour has introduced its latest rugged HD camcorder, the ContourGPS. The hands-free camera can record at 1080p and combines real-time GPS data logging. To complement the feature-set, Contour has launched a location-based video community that lets users share their content.
The GPS receiver captures location information once every second, which includes speed, elevation and location. The camera has a 135-degree wide-angle lens and can capture still photos at 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 second intervals. It can be set to record at 1920×1080 at 30FPS, 1280×720 or 1280×960 at the same speed or 1280×720 at 60FPS. The camera More >

Panasonic’s DMC-FZ35 (aka the FZ38 in some regions) was highly regarded in its time — which was all of a year ago. The superzoomer won shootouts along with the hearts of many, but now it’s being retired in favor of a new camera, the DMC-FZ45 (aka the FZ40). This one moves up to a 14 megapixel CCD sensor but, according to PhotographyBlog‘s review, doesn’t suffer the resulting decrease in image quality you might expect. Its 24x, 25 – 600mm zoom lens is highly rated, as is the 720p30 mode. A total winner, then, right? Yes — except that it doesn’t More >

Some details of the upcoming successor to Nikon’s Coolpix P6000 point and shoot digital camera have been revealed by NikonRumors. The sensor’s megapixel count will be reduced from 13.5 to 10, and it will be slightly bigger, at 1/1.7 inches versus 1/1.72 inches. The lens, however, will have more reach, as it will have an equivalent range of 28 to 200mm, rather than the P6000′s 28-112mm glass.
The focal length is only slightly changed, from f/2.7-5.9 to f/2.8-5.6. In comparison, the Canon G11 Nikon reportedly sees as the P700’0′s competitor sports a 28-140mm, f2.8-4.5 lens.
The P7000′s less complex sensor should improve More >

Panasonic has inadvertently given its plans away by posting details for the Lumix LX5 before its unveiling. Coming in both black and white versions, the pro compact camera would build on the LX3 by getting a much more sensitive sensor that can now handle ISO 12,800 versus the earlier model’s ISO 3,200. The camera now has a much longer-ranged 24-90mm lens (versus 24-60mm) without sacrificing the bright f2.0 maximum aperture.
