New York sues LG, Samsung, more for LCD price fixing

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office has sued Sharp, LG Display, Hitachi and Samsung for allegedly price fixing LCD screens in a number of consumer electronics devices, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. The lawsuit filed in a Manhattan state court alleges that an illegal cartel took out competition and made secret decisions to boost prices and took steps to make the prices remain high.

LG goes big with Android, intros tablet

LG pledged itself to Android in major fashion today by unveiling several Android devices at once. It started by teasing the development of an Android-based tablet. What features it would have weren’t mentioned, but it would ship sometime in the fall.
The Android phone lineup is also expanding soon with a trio of new Android phones. Leading the group is the Optimus Z, its touch-only flagship; it would have the same TI OMAP3630 processor that gives the Motorola Droid X its speed and should support HD video recording with HDMI video output and DLNA media sharing. Microsoft axes Kin after just six weeks [U]

(Updated with leaked estimates) Microsoft today surprised the phone industry by ending the Kin phone line just six weeks after it launched in mid-May. The company promised it would still sell the Kin One and Two through Verizon for now but has scrapped all of its international plans. It didn’t say how long it expected to keep sales but made clear the shift was solely to its true smartphone lineup.

Verizon already cutting Kin prices in half

After a false start, Verizon is now known to be slashing the prices of the Kin One and Two in half thanks to a leak this weekend. The Kin Two will drop from $100 to just $50 on contract, while the $50 Kin One is falling to $30. Both will be part of a wider sale that starts on June 28.
