Former LaLa head Nguyen launches Color photo-sharing

Former Apple employee and LaLa founder Bill Nguyen has just debuted a new, smartphone-based social network that uses no logins, no passwords and no friends lists — just spontaneous photo- and video-sharing with people nearby who are also running the app (which can also do SMS and text chatting). Called Color, it takes the form of a free app for iOS and Android that lets nearby users capture and share images in real time.

Linux Foundation launches MeeGo Smart TV Working Group

At the IPTV World Forum, the Linux Foundation introduced the MeeGo Smart TV Working Group (pdf). Already, the group includes such high-profile members as Nokia, Siemens and Intel, along with Sigma Designs and MIPS Technologies, among others. These companies will work along with cable providers to create and grow out a system of developers and content providers for smart TVs.

Orb Audio launches line of small but powerful speakers

Orb Audio has expanded and launched their latest line of tiny but audiophile-class, hand-made in the US speakers, called the Orb. The four-inch, 17-ounce round satellites — about the size of a baseball — can function as stand-alone units or be part of a modular system that includes subwoofers and additional speakers. The company says they offer high-quality construction but with direct-from-manufacturer pricing.

Netgear launches 4 Gigabit-enabled wireless routers at CES

Netgear has launched four new wireless routers ahead of CES today. The networking company has launched four gigabit-capable wireless routers, one with ADSL modem support and one a power-line router. The power line model, the N300 Wireless Router with Powerline AV combines 200Mbps networking over home power lines with wireless 802.11n networking and three standard 100Mbps Ethernet ports.
