Korean rumor has iPhone 5 arriving late June
Apr 5th
A potentially sketchy rumor has the iPhone 5 arriving in June after all. The device would still miss WWDC but could have a special event with Steve Jobs weeks later. ETNews claimed to know that both KT and SK Telecom would have the new model along with or soon after other countries.
Despite suspicions, the iPhone 5 wasn’t necessarily delayed, according to tips. The unnamed sources didn’t have an explanation for Sony’s Sir Howard Stringer warning that iPhone cameras might be delayed due to the Japanese earthquake.
The assertions are dodgy and contradict Apple’s usual pattern of Korean iPhone launches. It usually More >
Microsoft explains late March for NoDo, says no update block
Mar 11th
Microsoft Customer Experience Engineering GM Eric Hautala in an update on Thursday night gave some reasoning behind the decision to delay the WP7 NoDo update to late March. He had decided to spend “some extra time” verifying the update process in the wake of the flawed February update that pushed it back by the extra weeks. It shouldn’t have an effect on the timeframe of the Mango update shown at Mobile World Congress last month, Hautala promised.
He also noted that, despite claims, carriers couldn’t block updates altogether. They had to test updates and could forgo them arriving as soon More >

HP’s impending Slate 500 received even more photos today along with a new hint for its release date. The shots also show the combination USB and HDMI dock as well as a book-style case.
Launch strategies for the Slate have always remained murky, but the version shipping in a month’s time is expected to focus primarily on enterprise workers, although a “consumer version” was mentioned in a More >

Sep 16th
At a Wednesday meeting with enterprise IT managers, Verizon Wireless revealed it will launch its 4G network in 30 NFL cities before year’s end. The high-speed network will be launched in remaining major US cities systematically until all are covered by 2013, said Verizon senior federal sales executive Bernie McMonagle. The major metropolitan areas are expected to be the 30 cities that are home to the 32 football teams in the NFL.
Initially, it’s expected that 4G will be used by notebooks with LTE modems as well as specialized devices such as traffic sensors. The network would operate on an More >
Qualcomm: iPad killed smartbooks, dual 1.5GHz in late 2011
Sep 8th
Qualcomm chief Paul Jacobs made remarks today indirectly acknowledging that the iPad had all but eliminated the smartbook category. During an event, he argued that tablets like Apple’s had displaced the smartbook category Qualcomm had been trying to make through devices like the Lenovo Skylight by achieving the same goal. A tablet fulfills the same role of a device with a persistent Internet connection and all-day battery life, he said.
Although referring to the tablet category as a whole, the iPad is currently the dominant device in the category; virtually no devices are on the market that use a chip More >
