RIM kicked off BlackBerry DevCon today with plans for its own mobile ad service in the vein of Apple’s iAd or Google’s AdMob. BlackBerry Advertising Service will give app writers access to multiple ad networks to subsidize free or cheap apps. Developers will get a similar 60 percent cut of any ad revenue, but RIM is hoping to avoid iAd-level control and will give the advertisers and ad networks direction over the creative presentation of apps.
Ads will only need “a few lines of code” to implement but will support both mixed media and HTML5 along with deep access to More >

Organizers for the GSM Association’s Mobile World Congress revealed today that Apple would have an unofficial presence at the phone trade show through Macworld Mobile. The magazine will have full-day training and sessions for developers specific to iOS devices. The next Congress is due to start February 14 next year.
The presence isn’t supported by Apple but could represent its first footprint at the annual Barcelona gathering. Apple has regularly avoided attending third-party, platform-independent trade shows since Steve Jobs’ return. It first focused on outside but Apple-focused events and has gradually withdrawn to where it only hosts its own shows.

It will have the familiar integrated four-LED status indicator, and a standby switch should cutoff the power flowing into the iPhone 4′s battery. The 1,500mAh pack is More >
iPhone “definitely” coming to T-Mobile US, G2 pricing leaked
Sep 2nd
Persistent talk of an iPhone for T-Mobile USA gained a minor assist with a rumor this morning. An unnamed Examiner contact said that there had been “problems with the carrier” but that there would now “definitely” be a version for the second-largest American GSM carrier. The unconfirmed tip had the iPhone reaching the network early in 2011.
Such rumors can be inaccurate, and the new mention contradicts a claim the T-Mobile version might be available in the fall. However, it would line up with a Verizon-capable iPhone in January and implies that Apple might make the iPhone available on all US More >
