Samsung Apps hits 100m downloads, eclipsed by Angry Birds

Samsung announced on Thursday that its Samsung Apps mobile and TV application store has seen 100 million downloads since the service launched in June. This milestone was reached in 10 months, and the store now offers more than 13,000 apps for the company’s hardware offerings. In comparison, Angry Birds series reached the 100 million mark earlier this month, on the 14th, though the game is offered in many title and across multiple platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, iOS and more.

Square hits back at VeriFone, points out smear campaign

Square founder Jack Dorsey in a letter rebuffed the claims made in VeriFone’s smear attack on his Android and iOS mobile payment readers. The accusation of easy data ‘skimming’ was “not a fair or accurate claim” and overlooked the basic reality of credit cards. Anyone who you give a credit card already has enough to get information, and no encrypted system would stop this, Dorsey said.

Dell Venue Pro hits FCC

Dell’s Venue Pro handset, which was formally unveiled last month, has been approved by the FCC for a launch in the US market. The Windows Phone 7 handset will initially be distributed solely through T-Mobile, for use on the carrier’s 1700MHz 3G band.
The device features a 4.1-inch capacative touchscreen, while a 1GHz processor matches the rest of the Windows Phone 7 crowd that will arrive before the holidays. The device also integrates a portrait QWERTY slider, while Gorilla Glass helps to protect the AMOLED panel.

AT&T U-verse Mobile hits Android devices, Curve 3G

AT&T on Monday expanded U-verse Mobile beyond the iPhone today by porting it to its Android devices as well as the BlackBerry Curve 3G. The app as always gives subscribers to the TV service a way of scheduling their DVRs from cellular or Wi-Fi. They can also download some TV shows to watch them later, though over Wi-Fi and when a show’s producer has greenlit downloads.

Samsung Freeform II hits MetroPCS

Samsung said today it has began supplying provider MetroPCS with its Freeform II handset. Equipped with a QWERTY hardware keyboard, the feature phone has a 2.2-inch, 320×240 screen. Other features include stereo Bluetooth audio and a 1.3-megapixel camera.
Users can access the MetroNavigator GPS turn-by-turn navigation service and browse the web. An MP3 music player is built-in and up to 16GB of memory can be added through microSD memory cards. Battery life is rated at up to five hours of talk time.
