Samsung Galaxy S’ Android 2.3 updates stopped by Google

Vodafone has taken to its support forums to reveal a freeze on the Samsung Galaxy S update to Android 2.3 for the UK and other areas. The delay is likely to apply to all Galaxy S handsets at other carriers, as the update was suspended by Google. Exactly what the issue is with the update hasn’t been revealed.

Google to roll Hotpot into Places as common feature

Google on Friday was happy enough with the state of its Hotpot location recommendation service to make it a permanent staple of Google Places. The once experimental feature will now be subsumed into the place pages on the web and in mobile apps. Uniting the two should have a practical benefit by simplifying the link between the basic place information and how the places have been reviewed.
The company expected Hotpot to expand its reach in Places, although it didn’t say how.

Google boosts Android for work with Find My iPhone-like tool

Google late this week took a cue from Apple to bolster Android in the workplace. A combination of a new version of the Google Apps Device Policy app (Market) and a new My Devices page lets workers control a lost or stolen phone similar to Find My iPhone. They can track the device’s location, reset the PIN code, ring it to help others find it, or lock it entirely.

Google buys PushLife for multi-platform media sync

Google on Friday quietly bought out PushLife in what could be major help to its Google Music initiative. The deal, estimated to be worth $ 25 million, gets a company whose self-titled service let non-iOS smartphones get access to iTunes collections and other to streamline getting to Windows Media Player.
