Nintendo patents Wii Vitality Sensor, shows game concept

Nintendo’s Vitality Sensor for the Wii gaming console teased last year has been detailed by a recently-filed patent application. It uses a light beam and a photodetector to read a person’s state based on the amount of hemoglobin, an oxygen transport protein in red blood cells, that absorbs the infrared light. When blood flow is increased when playing a game, hemoglobin absorbs more of the infrared light, which lowers the reading on the sensor.

OnLive rolls out beta support for game streaming over Wi-Fi

OnLive this weekend switched on a Wi-Fi play beta. The Mac and Windows service had previously needed a wired link to stream games without hiccups but is now optimized to address the possible temporary interruptions and other connection issues with wireless. Using the wireless induces some extra lag but otherwise works the same as for wired.
In case the user wanders too far out of range or another, more major disruption hits, the service can automatically pause a game for up to five minutes to wait until a reliable signal comes back.

Sony seeks Android game developers

Sony is reportedly looking for mobile developers with Android skills and experience with online gaming. The Senior Server Engineer job posting, listed on Sony’s PlayStation UK site, has reignited speculation surrounding a rumored PSP phone based on Android.
Previous reports suggest Sony Ericsson may be working on a touchscreen slider with a 3.7- to 4.1-inch display and gamepads similar to the PSP Go. Sources claim the device will pack a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU powering Android 3.0.
