An uncovered memo has confirmed that Sprint is on the verge of retrying its botched Epic 4G update to Android 2.2 and will have some extra fixes in store for the Transform and its version of the Galaxy Tab. Sprint confirms 4G rollout in NYC, other regions

As expected, Sprint and Clearwire have activated 4G service in New York City and several additional regions. Service in New York now extends to all five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Other markets include Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut; Trenton and New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Tampa, Florida.
WiMAX coverage currently reaches over 60 markets across the US. Before the end of the year, the companies will add San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and several other cities.
The technology supports typical download speeds ranging from 3Mbps to 6Mbps, with optimum speeds up to 10Mbps in certain situations. More >
Sprint ID to come to Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab

Sprint has confirmed that its Sprint ID software will come to the Epic 4G smartphone and Galaxy Tab tablet smartphones, in addition to the already planned mid-range Android devices such as the Samsung Transform and LG Optimus S, as originally announced at the fall CTIA show. Sprint hasn’t detailed when it will equip Epic 4Gs with the software.

Samsung Epic 4G rollout clears issues, goes live

Sprint on its community forums confirmed that the promised firmware update is arriving to Epic 4G handsets, after an earlier delay. Some users are still waiting to receive it, but reports on the XDA Developers forum from those who received it or manually installed it are positive. The update is called DI18 and addresses several issues with the device.
A manual download and install of the software involves loading a ZIP file on to a microSD card and invoking a special boot process to load it on to the handset.

Sprint delays Epic 4G update due to Google server issues

The promised firmware update for the Samsung Epic 4G from Sprint that was due to go live starting Friday has been delayed due to an issue with Google’s servers, the carrier said. The issue is claimed as an administrative nature, Sprint continued in a statement, adding that the issue is being resolved and an update on the software’s arrival will be sent out as soon as that’s done.
