Nexus S to hit Canada on 850MHz 3G, Xperia Play late April

Canadians received two clues as to impending Android phone launches on Friday. One leak from a Best Buy staffer revealed that the Canadian version of the Google Nexus S is already reaching Best Buy stores ahead of its April 14 official debut. The Android 2.3 phone will also be a rare treat, MobileSyrup was told, as it will be the first Nexus S with 850MHz and 1,900MHz 3G, supporting not just the biggest three Canadian carriers but AT&T for those who buy the unlocked phone.

Netflix Canada gets much-needed deal for Paramount movies

Netflix significantly boosted its presence in Canada on Monday. The movie streaming service said it had landed a multi-year deal to bring new movie and TV shows to the service’s streaming-only service in the country, covering about 350 titles that include more recent movies like Iron Man 2 and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The agreement includes exclusive subscription TV rights to first-run movies and puts movies in the “premium pay TV window” for releases.

Stores run out of iPad 2 in Canada, UK

Apple has seen a repeat of its past performance on Saturday as it once again sold out at retail for the international launch. Checks by Electronista with several Canadian Apple stores showed that they had run out of supply by Saturday afternoon. Almost all third-party retailers, including Best Buy and Future Shop, had also run out of supply.

Xoom with Wi-Fi coming to Canada on April 8 for $600 CAD

Motorola on Monday announced it will ship the Wi-Fi version of its Xoom tablet in Canada in April. It’s now available for pre-order at Future Shop and Best Buy, priced at $ 600 CAD ($ 614) and $ 650 CAD ($ 665), respectively. Provider Telus will also carry the Wi-Fi device, pricing it from $ 600 CAD.
Telus will allow tethering to mobile Wi-Fi hotspot smartphones.

Palm Pre 2 to hit Canada through Rogers

The source code on the Canada section of the official Palm Pre 2 site reveals that the new device will be available at Canadian wireless provider Rogers, MobileSyrup reported on Wednesday. Exactly when it arrives hasn’t been revealed, but HP did say it will be in the coming months. While the source code, which isn’t visible without knowing how to access the behind-the-scenes code of the site and is therefore not visible to regular web surfers, misspells the carrier’s name as “Rodger’s”, but there is little doubt what is meant.
