Sony chief Stringer slips plans for 8MP iPhone 5 camera

Sony chief Sir Howard Stringer may have unintentionally given away plans for an eight-megapixel camera in the iPhone 5. During an interview with the WSJ‘s Walt Mossberg, he claimed that the company’s camera sensor plant in Sendai had seen hit by the Japanese earthquake and that shipments of sensors to Apple would be delayed. Apple has so far only sourced cameras from OmniVision, suggesting that Sony was shipping for a future model.

Panasonic may have new pro camera at NAB

At the upcoming NAB show, Panasonic may show a new semi-professional video camera, sources told EOSHD. Initially believed to the a successor to the company’s Micro-Four Thirds AF100, the new camera may not replace it after all. The model number and main specs will be revealed at the show, the sources said.

GoPro puts out Battery BacPac for HD Hero camera

GoPro has launched the Battery BacPac for its 1080p HD Hero camera. The Battery BacPac can act as a standalone battery charger for HD Hero batteries or attach to the camera. When attached, the BacPac extends video and time-lapse photo record times of the HD Hero camera to over 5 hours.
The unit connects to any USB charging source with the included cable. Onboard LED indicators show charge status. The Battery BacPac ships with a 1100mAh Li-ion Battery, one waterproof and one protective door for the HD Hero, and a USB cable. It retails for $ 49.

Casio intros Tryx camera, digital photo art service

At its CES press conference, Casio’s theme was digital imaging revolution. The company unveiled a new online service dubbed Imaging Square, a form of what the company calls digital photo art. It involves taking users’ digital photos and turning them into what look like traditional, albeit perfect and machine-made, paintings. Mounting the products in a frame or in an easel furthers the mirage. At the same time, Casio showed off a new style of wearable camera, the Tryx.
