BrandDirectory has released its 2011 rankings of the most valuable brands in the world, with tech and US-based companies dominating the list. Google and Microsoft took the top two spots, with IBM and Vodafone at fourth and fifth place and Apple at eighth, with AT&T rounding out the top 10. Apple releases updated ATV 2 software, fixes flickering

Only a week after promising a solution to the bug of “flickering” or distorted video on some televisions using second-generation Apple TVs with the 4.2 software, Apple has issued v4.2.1 to fix the problem, a recommended update for all (black model) Apple TV owners. The update also addresses a “wake from sleep” bug and other issues.

Apple sues Amazon over ‘App Store’ trademark

A court revealed on Monday that Apple had sued Amazon for allegedly infringing on a trademark with the Amazon Appstore. The iPhone maker claimed that the start of developer support for the Android shop was a misuse of the App Store name. Apple said it had asked Amazon three times to stop using the name without a “substantive response” before turning to the lawsuit.
“We’ve asked Amazon not to copy the App Store name because it will confuse and mislead customers,” spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said.

Foxconn may build factory for Apple products in Brazil

The South American-based Bom Dia news outlet is reporting that Chinas Foxconn may build a factory for Apple products in Brazil. Foxconn already has two assembly lines in Jundiai, Brazil that produce products for HP and Sony. Foxconn is known to have commissioned studies investigating the feasibility of adding a third line at its plant. The speculation in the Brazilian press is that this would be dedicated to manufacturing products for Apple.
