Wild Sony Ericsson Android dancer pitches Xperia Arc [video]
Mar 23rd
Sony Ericsson used an unusual trick to drive sales of the Xperia Arc in China that was caught on video this weekend (below). A dance routine using a real dancer in an Android mascot costume showed off what’s considered an impressive (and hilarious) routine in spite of, or potentially because of, the limited movement he had. The costume itself used a running fan to keep it inflated without affecting the sense of movement.
Android has occasionally had elaborate ad campaigns, including Super Bowl ads, but it’s rare to see the mascot feature so promimently. Companies like Motorola often just use More >
Squeezebox controller app arrives for Android handsets
Mar 22nd
Logitech has announced that it has finally released an Android app that will allow users to remotely control their Squeezebox devices. The utility can be used to control any Squeezebox located throughout a home, though it appears to be limited to devices connected on the same Wi-Fi network. The interface presents several menus to choose from devices and content.
Aside from basic playback controls, the app also provides access to supported apps such as Pandora, Last.fm, Facebook and Flickr, among others. Content is displayed with additional information such as album art.

AT&T to buy T-Mobile USA, puts Android at risk
Mar 20th
AT&T in a dramatic turn has said it will buy T-Mobile USA for $ 39 billion. The combination of cash and stock is mutual and will create what will be the largest carrier in the US by a wide margin, at over 140 million customers. Its deal will also give T-Mobile clear expansion into LTE-based 4G instead of the purely HSPA+ 3G path from before.
Coverage would also get better by increasing the number of cell sites in a given area; the move would give the equivalent of five years of expansion.
The two companies insisted that carrier competition would More >
Sprint to retry Android 2.2 on Epic 4G, fix Tab, Transform
Mar 18th
An uncovered memo has confirmed that Sprint is on the verge of retrying its botched Epic 4G update to Android 2.2 and will have some extra fixes in store for the Transform and its version of the Galaxy Tab. The Epic 4G upgrade should be pushed over a four-day period, starting from March 21, with both the promised improvements and fixes for the SD card troubles that cut it short earlier. Among the extras spotted by BGR for the 2.2 update are the expected Bluetooth improvements, the GPS fixes common to all Galaxy S phones, and Flash 10.1 support; Sprint ID More >
AT&T targets jailbroken iPhone, Android tethering users
Mar 18th
AT&T has begun sending messages to iPhone and possibly Android users it believes are tethering without paying for a matching plan. The notices tell subscribers that their service “may need updating” with the 4GB DataPro tethering plan since it believed they were using tethering but were still on one of the device-only plans. Subscribers were told to either stop tethering or else face being automatically signed up for the $ 45 tethering plan on the next billing period, which at least for OSXDaily was March 27.
The notices appear to have been targeted accurately so far and at least have been More >
